I knew I wasn’t giving my kids the 'best of the best'.
Mom of 10 ... ages young to adult
After 6 years of homeschooling, I knew I wasn’t giving my kids the 'best of the best'. I didn’t want them to turn out like me, a great student who 20 years later, with high school & college diplomas in hand, doesn’t remember much of anything taught.
When we notebook our studies, quite frankly, the knowledge STICKS. Lightbulbs click and eyes shine! We have a growing treasury of their homeschooling journey.
Discouraged or frustrated with your current homeschooling situation? Please check out the posts below.
These posts give you a glimpse of my path from doom & gloom to victory!
I wish I could remember how I was initially introduced to notebooking. I believe I Providentially stumbled upon this website for it has been the springboard for major changes in our home.
After almost a decade of homeschooling, I knew what I wanted our schooling to look like, but at the same time I knew it was looking less and less like my vision. When I discovered these notebooking pages, I decided to use the freebies offered to try it out with my children. They didn't really notice a difference at first, so I began substituting some of our "independent" work with more notebooking pages. I was so pleased with the outcome. My children were becoming masters of the material we studied!
I was sold! I purchased the Notebooking Pages Treasury during the Fall Sale and took advantage of the other bonuses offered. I asked for the Epi Kardia curriculum for Christmas and was again very pleased.
My children were not as optimistic as I was about starting "another new curriculum." I was so pleased yesterday to hear my oldest son comment, "Is this what we're going to do more of? This is really fun!" I am now spending time reading all those wonderful books with my children, exploring the volumes of creative notebooking pages for ways to express what we've learned, and sharing it all with excitement to Daddy when he comes home. What a blessing this has been for our family.
The key to our successful transition to notebooking was the wonderfully helpful emails that I received the first couple weeks after my registration on the website. Each email walked me through the process of incorporating these into our schooling. Without that I would have been too overwhelmed to know where to start. Instead it was an exciting process and a gradual (more permanent) transition.
Thank you again for blessing our family!
I have homeschooled for 19 years. For 18 years I moaned and yes, even grumbled, about the time, effort, and creative brain drain to create my own pages for my students’ various subjects. I would wonder why, after all these years, some savvy person hadn’t come up with pre-made templates for a variety of subjects under one site. And then last year I found Notebooking Pages! Yea! Although I am now down to teaching one child…who is 16, I still use it when we are doing a quick study on various subjects, such as artists or composers. A great way to re-enforce what he is reading. This fall I will be teaching a group of 5th graders state history. And what site did I first turn to when deciding to create notebooks? Yep, Notebooking Pages. I found excellent sheets on our state plus with the handy Notebooking Publisher I will be able to quickly and easily add pages. Thank you, Debra!
We loved using the bird/nature journaling pages this summer when we were studying 24 different birds!
I found a link to Notebooking Pages on another site. That link was an answered prayer. Not only has the notebooking pages offer given our homeschool a much needed "breath of fresh air", I have also been able to use some of the ideas at church with our Keepers of the Faith program. Thank you for the inspiration!
We have been notebooking since we began homeschooling over 8 years ago – so the lifetime membership seemed like a natural fit for us. The Notebooking Lifetime Membership is a ‘treasure’! Easy access to such a variety of pages has taken the work out of this part of our journey. In addition, Publisher allows my children to develop their own pages, which adds a whole new element to their learning. Even if you are new to notebooking, the Lifetime Membership is well worth your investment and it will quickly become your go-to source!
I first learned about Notebooking at a homeschool convention last year. After the convention I started Googling Notebooking to find out how to get started. I came across this page (Notebooking Pages) and I’m so glad I found this valuable resource! I became a Lifetime Member and believe it has been a great investment. I began having my 8 year old son do Notebooking pages for History, copywork and some other misc character and missionary studies. Each week I look at what we will be reading in history as part of our Sonlight core, then I search for those topics on NotebookingPages.com and print out pages to go with those subjects (which by the way, we have never searched for a topic and not found it here on this website — this resource has every topic imaginable!). My son also likes to do the 3D pages. When we finish this school year we will have a beautiful keepsake of all that he has learned this year. I am hoping to be able to buy one of those binding tools from Amazon to bind our notebooks together at the end of this year. Thank you so much for providing this great tool.
Product: Nature Study Pages
Wow! Notebookers and Charlotte Mason fans pay attention! Here is a great resource for you. And for those who don't fit the above descriptions, you may very well like this, too. I think everyone from unschoolers to the classically minded could make good use of this nature-journal facilitating software. The first part of this computer CD contains a slew of nature notebooking pages. At the beginning there is a Nature Study Notebook Cover and suggestions for using the pages themselves, which are categorized in eight sections.
First comes the "7 Days of Creation," with several templates for journaling and illustrating. All of the pages that have writing space include pages with primary-style lines (with a dotted line between two solid lines) and pages with standard lines for older students.
Next is "All about Animals," which has six sub-sections: Amphibians, Birds, Fish, Invertebrates, Mammals, and Reptiles. Among the myriad options, there is a page for drawing animal tracks, an "observation jar" page for drawing little captive creatures, and lifecycle pages. The spider page has a place for sketching the web, and there is an arthropod page with a sectioned template for drawing the head, thorax, and abdomen. A nice feature found here and in the plant section is a "word bank" where specific terms are printed at the bottom of the page for student reference--good for building vocabulary and spelling skills.
The "Habitat" chapter is most comprehensive: arctic, beach, creek and pond, desert, forest, jungle, mountains, plains, prairie, rain forest, streams and rivers, rotting logs, savannah, sea and ocean, under a rock, underground, and yard. I especially like the last one, as that is a familiar and convenient habitat for children to explore! Rotting logs and under a rock sound like fun too.
The "Nature Log and Journaling Pages" are lined with "date," location," and "notes" column headings. There is a generic page and one for each season as well as various template pages with space for writing and drawing.
"Plants, Flowers, and Trees" come next. The flower pages have places for leaf and flower/petal detail. The tree pages have spaces to illustrate the bark, leaves/needles, and the flowers/fruit/nuts/cones. There is also a place for bark rubbings.
The last three sections are "Rocks and Minerals," which includes igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks as well as minerals; "Seasons"; and "Weather," with all kinds of daily, weekly, and monthly weather logs among other things. There is even a page for the water cycle.
Each section contains a cover page for separating each category and organizing your nature notebook. The template pages are most attractive, with beautiful illustrations and pleasing layout.
At the end of this Nature Notebooking half of the CD is a bonus section. It is an amazing assortment of nature-themed fun frames and borders. These could be used as additions to your children's nature journal or would be perfect for letter-writing or stories. The author also suggests using them for copywork and dictation. There are rainbows, birds, flowers, leaves, seashells, snowflakes, frogs, and butterflies to name a few. Some are black and white, most are in color and range from quaint to "cartoon-y" in style. In general, they lean toward "girly" in their appeal.
Whew! Okay, so now comes the second half of the CD, which is North American Birds Notebooking Pages. There are 680 notebook pages for 97 types of birds, and there are blank templates for adding other birds. Again, you will find both primary and regular-style line options for all the pages that have journaling space. Seven different page templates are available for each bird. Some are full-page illustrations for coloring. Where it applies, male and female species are shown. Many of the pages have a space for the common and scientific name. One template has a range map printed on it.
We usually school year-round, trying to plug in some fun stuff in the summer months along with the usual catch-up. I've added "Nature Notebooking" to my summer to-do list, and the kids are 100% behind me. I will also make sure we take pertinent pages (animals, habitats, birds, frames, and borders) with us on our family vacations from now on!
Debra has notebooking pages for just about any subject, and they are beautiful! And with the Notebooking Publisher, children can type their pages, learn desktop publishing skills, or design their own templates. This was an absolutely innovative idea that has unlimited potential.
My son was not thriving with our current homeschool situation, so we switched to notebooking, and he came alive!! Now he is excited, and asks to do his schoolwork. He loves this new style.
Thank you for providing such wonderful Bible oriented Notebooking Pages. I have used several of them with our Mystery of History Study. They are a blessing as I don't have to sit and scour the internet for photos then try to make my own notebooking pages. No need to do that when you have many available right here on NotebookingPages.com! Thank you and God Bless!
