I was wondering how many of you have independent children that like to do as much work as they can on their own? I have 10 yr old boy and he and I are at a crossroads as to how much I think is necessary and how much he truly wants to do and is interested in. I don't want to squelch his enthusiasm for what he is interested in but there are some things I think he needs to learn and do that he resists. He will study and read and produce good work if he is interested but what do you do about those things that are necessary (like math) that he really dislikes? He says he wants to unschool but I am not the kind of teacher that can "relax" enough for that. I am hoping this new notebook publisher will be just the thing. Any other suggestions?
